NBIS's new clubhouse

Coming Soon!

The Nanaimo Brain Injury Society is very excited about adding a clubhouse to its existing range of services. We are planning on offering this exciting new approach, starting summer 2011. Please refer back to this page frequently for updated information. Alternatively, do call our office at 250-753-5600 and ask to speak with the Clubhouse manager.

What is Clubhouse?
A Clubhouse is a membership organization, and the people who come and participate in a Clubhouse are its members. Membership in a clubhouse is open to people who has been diagnosed with a brain injury. This idea of membership is fundamental to the Clubhouse concept: being a member of an organization means that an individual has both shared ownership and shared responsibility for the success of that organization.

There is no time limit on belonging. If a person is interested in becoming a member, all they need to do is visit the Clubhouse at a set time for a complete orientation and tour of the clubhouse. Following this, we will need to confirm that a brain injury has occurred, and this may involve people giving their consent so that contacts with health care providers can be made.

Membership in a Clubhouse gives a person living with brain injury the opportunity to share in creating successes for the community. At the same time, he or she is getting the necessary help and support to achieve individual success and satisfaction.
